Common Name: Ipe
Scientific Name: Tatoebuia Impetiginosa
Family: Bignoniaceae

General Characteristics:
A very heavy wood and very hard to cut; core dusky-chestnut or dusky-light Havana brown, generally uniform, sometimes with greenish reflections; texture from fine to medium, uniform; grain straight or reverse; surface with a little shine and averagely smooth to the touch.

Main Uses:
Ipe wood, because it is very heavy and of high mechanical properties, can be used for interior finishing; sporting goods like bowling balls and bocce, tool handles and agricultural tools, outdoor construction such as building structures, railway sleepers, U-joints, sashes, wainscoting, lathing pieces, parquet and floorboards, decks, wagon, truck bodies and musical instruments, steps for stairs, etc.
